Boasting the world’s largest library reading space, Beijing Library provides a contemporary yet timeless place for learning, interaction, knowledge-sharing, and open discussion, while retaining strong connections to Beijing’s urban fabric and rich cultural scene.
The total construction area of Beijing Library is about 75,000 square meters, with 3 floors above ground and 1 floor underground. The library has a collection capacity of 8 million volumes and about 2,400 reading seats.
Regional Introduction
Forest Reading Hall
Forest Reading Hall, with a usable area of approximately 21,800 square meters, is recognized as the world's largest library hall, certified by Guinness World Records.
This area offers readers access to both Chinese and foreign language books. Readers can ascend Chunchu Path, Xiamo Path, Qiuhao Path and Dongshi Path while enjoying reading. The four paths are for Culture and Tourism Books Borrowing and Reading, Law Books Borrowing and Reading, Natural Science Books Borrowing and Reading and Refrence Books Reading, respectively.
Rare Book Division
The Rare Book Division adheres to the construction philosophy of “preservation, inheritance and innovation” and strives to build a theme hall that integrates ancient book collection, reading and exhibition, experience, as well as reading promotion.
Art Collection Division
The Art Collection Division covers an area of approximately 3,400 square meters, and houses approximately 300 seats (including halls and rooms), a design collection of more than 10,000 Chinese art documents, more than 2,000 foreign art documents and 2.48million digital resources.
Children’s Library
With the mission of “cultivating future readers”, the Children’s Library is dedicated to creating a child-centered public cultural space that features advancement, comfort, safety and friendliness.
Metaverse experience hall
The first-generation Metaverse experience hall, built by Beijing Library, has created a reading world, where virtuality and reality blend beyond imagination. Through digital twin technology, the physical library is replicated in the virtual realm, allowing readers to traverse the online parallel world.
Cultural Exchange Area
The library opened the Cultural Exchange Area consisting of activity halls, such as the Zhihe Hall, Daohe Hall, Xianhe Hall, Daguan Hall, Juhe Hall and Exhibition Hall. These halls serve as catalysts for cultural activities, thus invigorating cultural and tourism exchanges and supporting the high-quality development of reading promotion.
