BMC Selected as a Typical Case of High-Quality Development of Tourism Services in China in 2024

Standing out from the cases of tourism industry influence nationwide in 2024, "Beijing (Tongzhou) Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Scenic Area: Providing High Quality Featured Tourism Services" was selected as a typical case of high-quality development of tourism services in China in 2024.


The construction of Beijing (Tongzhou) Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Scenic Area carries on the cultural protection and inheritance concept emphasized by the Chinese Grand Canal cultural system, relying on the canal water area and resources on both sides to promote innovative development and utilization of the Grand Canal. Its functional positioning is shifting towards serving objects, supporting functions, and regional linkage, attaching importance to the regional ecological environment and regional collaborative innovation, creating a world-class immersive cultural vitality waterfront, building the scenic area into a systematic expression of Chinese grand canal culture, promoting the all-round integration and development of cultural tourism and business in the BMC, significantly boosting the attractiveness and influence of tourism, and effectively driving the sound development of the tourism industry.



The scenic area is located in the core position of the BMC, passing through areas such as the urban green-heart forest park, the municipal administrative office area, and the canal business district. It functions as an important node of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt and an important component of the "Grand Canal Eco-belt". The scenic area starts from Tongzhou-Yanjiao Expressway in the north and ends at Gantang Bridge in the south. The river course extends 12.1 kilometers in total, with a total area of 7.23 square kilometers, including a water area of 2.71 square kilometers.


"Canal + Physical Education" Water Sports

The scenic area is divided into the north, central, and south zones, integrating leisure, entertainment, education, sports competition and fitness, and water recreation and sightseeing functions. The tourism navigation for the Beijing-Hebei section of the Grand Canal was successfully achieved in June 2022. In 2023, the scenic area was included in the first batch of pilot units for national aquatic (marine) citizen leisure sports center by the General Administration of Sport of China. The Grand Canal 5A scenic spot was successfully established, and the central zone of the scenic spot was successfully included in the third batch of national level nighttime cultural and tourism consumption gathering areas by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China in February 2024.
