Top-level design and green transformation: The National Demonstration Zone for Green Development has achieved significant results
Green is the most vivid background color of the BMC. In August 2021, the State Council issued the State Council's Opinions on Supporting the High-Quality Development of BMC, proposing the construction of a National Demonstration Zone for Green Development in the BMC. In February 2024, the State Council approved the Implementation Plan for the Construction of National Demonstration Zone for Green Development in the BMC, making system deployment for the construction of a National Demonstration Zone for Green Development. The concept of green development has been deeply integrated into various fields of economic and social development in the BMC, yielding fruitful results.
The comprehensive transportation hub project of BMC station introduces sunlight onto the underground platform through transparent structures and materials. The newly added sponge city project in Tongzhou District has adopted foundation pit air film, effectively reducing construction dust. Cruise ships keep coming and going on the canal dock, and the landscape along the river is becoming increasingly rich, which indicates the improvement of water quality that meets all the standards in the municipal control assessment section.
At present, the BMC boasts 13 national level green factories. The "Eleven Horizontal and Nine Vertical" road transportation network is gradually improving, achieving over 400 kilometers of greenway spanning north and south, and eight clusters of 10,000 acres of forests connecting east and west. It has become the first national forest city in a plain area of Beijing, creating an urban green space pattern of "one heart, one ring, two belts, and two districts".
To make the sky bluer and water greener, the BMC is deeply promoting the application of new energy and renewable energy. The utilization proportion of regional renewable energy is higher than the city's average level, the multi-energy coupling practice of the BMC has been selected as an innovative case by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and the green energy supply and carbon management project of Central Green Forest Park has been selected as one of the first typical cases of national energy green and low-carbon transformation.
Green transportation + green buildings: Reducing carbon emissions and ensuring low energy consumption
The pollution on the roads has decreased, and the construction sites have become more lush with greenery. The BMC achieved 100% of new buildings meeting the two star or above green building standards, and 100% of new public buildings meeting the three-star green building standards in 2024. Totally 85 projects including Wanda Plaza and Yunshu Center have been granted green building evaluation labels, with a total construction area of 12.6656 million square meters.
One of the BMC's characteristics is to achieve industrial green technological transformation in the field of advanced manufacturing, with a view to expanding the scale and improving the quality of characteristic industrial clusters. On the basis of cultivating 13 national level green factories, the BMC also boasts 2 national level green supply chains and 10 carbon neutral certified enterprises, and guides 20 advanced manufacturing enterprises to implement green technological transformation projects, significantly optimizing the industrial structure.
While rendering assistance in the green transformation of enterprises, the BMC also continues to make efforts in the field of clean energy, cultivating a total of 45 key future energy enterprises, as well as more than 20 municipal-level specialized, refined, differentiated, and innovative enterprises, and national-level specialized, refined, differentiated, and innovative little giant enterprises.
While maintaining strong momentum for industrial development, the BMC is also continuously improving its ecological environment. The cumulative concentration of PM 2.5 in the entire district was better than the annual assessment indicator, and the improvement rate ranked third in the city, creating the best record in the same period in history as of December 29, 2024. In terms of soil environmental quality, the safety utilization rates of key construction land and contaminated farmland in the entire district have both remained at 100% as of the end of November 2024. The BMC also cooperates with surrounding regions to carry out 17 joint law enforcement actions in 2024, effectively curbing environmental pollution.
