Cool Off in Tongzhou this Summer: Indoor Surfing, Splash Disco, High-Speed Slides… Instant Refreshment for you
In BMC, a wave of “cool economy” is quietly rising with the heat, demonstrating vigorous vitality. Along the banks of the Grand Canal, a series of new summer scenes continue to emerge, stimulating new momentum in consumer spending.
“Universal Cool Summer” Ignites Youthful Energy
Recently, the highly acclaimed “Universal Cool Summer” has made its return. Countless young people, brimming with youthful energy, have flocked to the BMC Culture and Tourism District to enjoy performances, amusements, and water activities at Universal Studios. The Universal Studios has also provided three drying machines for visitors to quickly dry off and continue their marvelous journey after getting wet.
For the new generation of travelers who favor “emotion-driven tourism,” splashing around with the Minions, Kung Fu Panda Po, and Megatron offers a uniquely exhilarating version of Universal Studios—an exclusive summer memory.
Moon River Night Market: A Hub of Summer Delicacies
Every evening at sunset, the Moon River Night Market—located at the confluence of five rivers in BMC—bustles with activity.
“I never expected to find authentic Guxiangzhai shaved ice from Tianjin right here in Tongzhou!” said Feng Tingting, who has lived in Tongzhou for ten years. In her hometown Tianjin, Guxiangzhai shaved ice is a quintessential summer treat, much like Beijing’s Arctic Ocean soda—cool, tangy-sweet, and the perfect way to beat the heat.
Since its opening last summer, the Moon River Night Market has undergone several rounds of upgrades and now boasts 140 food stalls offering over 300 types of regional specialties. Over the past year, the night market has attracted more than three million domestic and international visitors and generated over 100 million yuan in consumption. Visitors enjoy two hours of free parking, and many vendors support QR code ordering with direct pickup, eliminating the need to crowd around stalls.
Young People Take to the Canal for Paddleboarding
Recently, national paddleboarding coach and founder of Weidu Club, Ake, held an introductory class at Qianhe Xielu Bridge, drawing more than a dozen beginners.
On the rippling waters of the canal, colorful paddleboards glide across the surface, forming a harmonious scene alongside the green willows and the ancient Randeng Tower onshore.
“The Grand Canal is far wider than the city’s moat or Liangma River. The shimmering water at dusk is just magnificent! The waterfront leisure trails and supporting facilities are also well-developed, making it perfect for micro-vacations.” Ake hopes to introduce more people to the joy of paddleboarding on the Grand Canal.
Xiji Town Adds a “Storm Spa” Attraction
Traveling downstream along the Grand Canal leads to Xiji Town. This summer, visitors can experience the city’s first-ever “Storm Spa” and its exhilarating contrast.
Immersed in an intelligently temperature-controlled massage pool, visitors are surrounded by a light, sound, and electricity system simulating thunder and lightning. From the ceiling, a downpour of “artificial rain” cascades dramatically.
In addition to the “Storm Spa,” the venue also features a nearly 100-meter-long indoor-outdoor high-speed rainbow slide, an indoor surfboard simulator, and the soothing “Stone Light Warm Realm” wellness space.
