At the entrance of Zaolin Village in Yujiawu Hui Ethnic Township, a breathtaking floral spectacle lies hidden within an emerald-green forest—follow the fragrance to discover 30 acres of peonies in full bloom, cultivated by the Yujiawu Collective Forest Farm. The stunning floral landscape offers free access for visitors to tour and photograph, captivating not only local villagers but also drawing crowds from surrounding urban areas.
Under the bright sunshine, the medicinal herb zone's Chishao peonies stand proudly with deep magenta buds, resembling stars scattered through the woodland. The "Qingwen" peony's layered petals resemble hydrangeas, glowing with pinkish hues. "Sarah" displays an elegant champagne-color gradient, while the rare blue-purple "Blue Fuji" and the "Red Fuji"—with its massive 18cm-diameter blooms—have become new favorites for floral arrangements.
To maintain the flower field, Yujiawu Collective Forest Farm developed a "three-prune, two-thin" technique through three years of trial: Establish main stems at the first year; shape plant structure at the second year; and control bloom quantity to direct nutrients to roots at the third year. Amidst the blooming fields, forestry worker Feng Aimin weeds while sharing: "We bend down hundreds of times daily - checking bud maturity and removing vigorous weeds. But seeing everyone's love for these flowers makes it all worthwhile."

It is reported that the Yujiawu Collective Forest Farm established its development strategy focusing on both forest-cultivated medicinal plants and ornamental floriculture from its very inception. In the 1,600-mu underforest economy, nearly 100 mu are dedicated to flower cultivation, featuring peonies as the leading variety alongside a diverse mix of other flower species; the forest-medicine sector plans to add 400 mu of Atractylodes lancea planting, forming a "peony-led, multi-species coexistence" pattern.
With flowers in full bloom, now is the perfect time to visit Zaolin Village in Yugongwu Hui Ethnic Township, check in at the breathtaking peony sea, and join us for this early summer rendezvous as we explore the romance of the peony fields.
