After 14 years in operation, the Beijing Metro Yizhuang Line will be extended one more station to the northeast.
On August 11, the Beijing Public Resources Comprehensive Trading System announced the planned tender for surveying and design of the Taihu Depot Additional Station Project on the Yizhuang Line, with an estimated investment of RMB 197 million. The tender is scheduled to open in September.
According to the plan, the project will be located in Taihu Town, Tongzhou District, making use of and upgrading the existing depot to construct a new ground-level, single-sided platform station—providing improved metro access to the surrounding area.
The Yizhuang Line opened at the end of 2010, beginning at Songjiazhuang Station in Fengtai District, passing through Chaoyang and Daxing Districts, and terminating at Yizhuang Railway Station in Tongzhou District. It connects central Beijing with the Beijing Economic–Technological Development Area. The line is 23.3 kilometers long, with 14 stations (6 underground, 8 elevated), and includes the Songjiazhuang parking facility and the Taihu Depot.
The current terminus, Yizhuang Railway Station, is located southwest of the Beijing–Tianjin Expressway, directly beneath Yizhuang Station on the Beijing–Tianjin Intercity Railway, serving both the station front area and connecting passengers. The Taihu Depot lies northeast of the Beijing–Tianjin Expressway; once the new station is completed, the Yizhuang Line’s service coverage will expand to the northeastern side of the expressway.
