Recently, with the successful breakthrough of the “Beijing-Binhai Innovation” shield tunneling machine, the No. 2 shield tunnel at Tianjin Airport on the Beijing-Binhai Intercity Railway has completed excavation, marking the full and safe breakthrough of all shield tunnels at the Tianjin Binhai International Airport section. This signifies that the Tianjin Binhai International Airport shield tunnels of the Beijing-Binhai Intercity Railway have been fully completed.
The Beijing-Binhai Intercity Railway is an important component of the “Rail-Based Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei” transport network. The line extends 97.2 kilometers and shares tracks and stations with the BMC to Baodi section of the Beijing-Tangshan Intercity Railway.

At the end of 2022, Phase I of the Beijing-Binhai Intercity Railway officially opened to traffic. Currently, trains depart from Beijing Railway Station and arrive at Beichen Station in Tianjin, not only connecting Beichen District to the high-speed rail network but also further promoting the integration and connectivity of the “Rail-Based Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei” system.

Simultaneously with the opening of Phase I, construction of Phase II officially commenced. Phase II covers the Beichen to Binhai New Area section and includes two stations: Tianjin Binhai International Airport Station and Binhai West Station. Once the entire line is fully operational, passengers will be able to travel directly by rail from BMC Station to Tianjin Binhai International Airport Station.
Upon completion, the Beijing-Binhai Intercity Railway will establish a large-scale integrated transport hub at Tianjin Binhai International Airport, combining rail, civil aviation, and metro systems. Tianjin Binhai International Airport Station will become the first high-speed rail station in Tianjin to achieve seamless connection and convenient transfers between air travel and railways, providing passengers with more comprehensive, efficient, and high-quality travel services. In addition, the line will also interconnect with the Beijing-Tangshan Railway and other routes, further improving the regional transport network within Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and contributing to regional economic integration.
