In the heart of winter, the strawberry-growing base in Xiji Town is filled with warmth and vitality. Inside the greenhouses, rich fruit aromas linger in the air as the first batch of ripe strawberries officially ushers in the harvesting season.
Plump, bright-red strawberries hang densely from lush green vines, delighting visitors with a “sweet harvest” even in the cold season, while simultaneously opening the curtain on the region’s winter “sweet economy.”
The outstanding quality of Xiji strawberries is attributed, on the one hand, to the area’s fertile soil and high-quality water resources, and on the other, to green cultivation techniques guided by agricultural technicians. These strawberries boast a naturally sweet flavor and have passed certification for pollution-free agricultural products, earning strong market recognition.
In recent years, Xiji Town has leveraged its locational advantages and focused on industrial revitalization to optimize its agricultural structure, cultivating strawberry farming into a signature industry that enriches local residents. By introducing premium varieties such as Hongyan and Zhangji, promoting modern agricultural technologies including integrated water–fertilizer systems and green pest control, and establishing standardized demonstration bases, the town has effectively encouraged surrounding farmers to participate. Through the integration of rural tourism resources, Xiji has launched a combined model of “strawberry picking + farming experiences + rural homestays,” attracting urban visitors and transforming the “small strawberry” into a true “fruit of prosperity” for villagers.
At present, the strawberry cultivation area in Xiji remains stable at over 200 mu, covering Langdong Village, Nanxiaozhuang Village, Duliuke Village, Dashawu Village, and other surrounding communities. Villagers benefit from both steady rental income through land transfers and wages earned by working at the bases. “Employment at one’s doorstep” continues to broaden income channels and improve livelihoods.
Currently, large quantities of strawberries are ripening and entering the market, with the picking season expected to last until May 2026. The current picking price ranges from approximately RMB 50 to 80 per jin. Visitors may head to the planting bases in each village daily from 9:00 to 17:00 to enjoy the strawberry-picking experience.
