A splendid journey begins with bell and drum resound. During the 2026 New Year’s Day holiday, major commercial districts across the BMC created a vibrant year-end and New Year festive atmosphere by launching diversified and integrated cultural, tourism, and consumption scenarios. According to statistics, during the holiday period, 60 key commercial districts citywide recorded a total footfall of 28.226 million visits, generating RMB 8.46 billion in sales. From December 31, 2025 to January 3, 2026, the combination of “Wanli New Commercial Complex + New Year’s Eve Events” drove significant growth across seven commercial complexes in the BMC—Wanli, the MixC, Grand Canal Place, Aegean Place, Link Plaza, Wanda Plaza, and Guiyou Store—with year-on-year footfall increasing by 120.03% and total sales rising by 132.39%.

“5, 4, 3, 2, 1—Happy New Year!” Recently opened Wanli welcomed a vibrant New Year’s Eve celebration, with consumer enthusiasm continuing to surge. On New Year’s Eve, the semi-open street blocks of Tingyun Town were exceptionally lively. As the countdown numbers flashed on large outdoor LED screens, crowds counted down together and sent New Year wishes to the melody of I Love You, China.

From the dazzling lights of the three grand atriums to the dynamic flow of the Rainbow Skybridge; from the viral romance of the giant rose installation to the classical elegance of intangible cultural heritage fish lanterns; from intellectual exchanges at the WCCA to the warm bustle of the Deep Mountain Bazaar, and the passionate interactions at the Rune Battlefield—from trial operation through its first New Year, Wanli attracted massive crowds, with over 2.45 million visitors and sales exceeding RMB 200 million. Among them, Wanli · Wangfujing WellTown, featuring a glass dome and artificial waterfall as a new urban landmark, recorded over 850,000 visits during the New Year’s Day holiday, with cumulative sales surpassing RMB 70 million.

Since the opening of Wanli WellTown and Wanli Tingyun Commercial Street, these projects have accelerated the BMC’s development as an international exchange hub and an international consumption center. The area introduced the district’s first centralized tax refund service point and “Buy and Refund Instantly” stores, creating a departure tax-refund-friendly street that facilitates payments for overseas visitors and attracts international consumers, who now account for 0.3% of the overall customer base.

Wanli has brought new commercial formats, new experiential scenarios, and new consumption models, providing fresh consumption options for residents of the BMC and the three northern counties of Hebei. It has accelerated the integration of consumption and the convergence of production and daily life. Since opening, over 18% of consumers have come from outside Beijing, driving overall growth in footfall and sales across the BMC’s commercial districts and complexes.

On New Year’s Eve, Shokai Tongzhou MixC staged a spectacular artificial snowfall show, alongside promotions such as “Spend RMB 199 to Enter a Gold Bar and Smartphone Draw” and a New Year’s Eve gala. The venue attracted nearly 60,000 visitors in a single day, with sales approaching RMB 7 million. During the New Year’s Day holiday, immersive performances such as Alice in Wonderland environmental theater parades and Silent Comedy shows were staged, while the B2 Valley Gathering Space hosted four daily Aurora Snowfall Shows, creating a fully romantic atmosphere. Over the holiday period, ongoing events—including theater festivals, aurora snowfall shows, and riverside concerts—continued to gain momentum, generating a total footfall of 129,000 and retail sales of RMB 21.48 million.

On New Year’s Eve, Grand Canal Place held the opening ceremony of its new “Photosynthesis Plaza.” This newly unveiled public cultural space has added yet another urban living room to the BMC. Nearly 100 themed activities will be hosted, ranging from the Grand Canal Place Sports Games to Grand Canal theatrical performances, from children’s markets to members-only events, further enriching citizens’ consumption scenarios.

Cultural and tourism consumption energized the holiday economy. Universal Beijing Resort rolled out diverse activities such as New Year’s Eve light shows and parade floats, creating immersive festive experiences that ignited winter celebrations and drove average daily commercial district footfall up by 3.8 times year-on-year.
