The planning and construction of the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center(BMC) is a major strategic decision made by the Party Central Committee, led by General Secretary Xi Jinping.

On May 27, 2016, the Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party held a meeting to plan and deploy the construction of BMC. General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized the need to adhere to the principles of“Global Vision, International Standards, Distinctive Chinese Features, and Future-oriented Goals”and position this project ambitiously, approaching the planning and construction with a spirit akin to creating history and a piece of art.

Located in Tongzhou District, at the northern end of the Grand Canal and the eastern end of Chang’an Avenue, BMC historically enjoys the reputation as the "Gateway to the Capital. " The planned area of BMC covers 155 square kilometers, offering a favorable ecological environment and making it an ideal location for residential and commercial purposes, with ample opportunities for industrial growth. Today, as the location of the Beijing Municipal Government, it shoulders the historic mission of alleviating non-capital functions and building a "Millennium City, " together with the Xiong’an New Area, forming the new “Two Wings” of Beijing’s development.
